No, I had never heard of Arba Minch either. 

It's the largest town in Southern Ethiopia, on the shores of the rapidly disappearing Lake Chomo.  It's warm enough to grow bananas here, and the farmers are diverting vast amounts of fresh water from the streams that feed the lake.

Local fisherman have developed an unusual technique.  They set up their nets and then try to drive fish into them by smashing their punting poles into the water.
